Sixty Statements, 600 Pieces Of Evidence In Jewish Protester’s Death, Manslaughter Charge

Attorney Ron Bamieh, left, talks to his client Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji, a professor of computer science at Moorpark College, during an appearance in Ventura County Superior Court in connection with the death of Paul Kessler in Ventura, Calif., Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. California authorities said they have not ruled out that a hate crime was committed in the death of a pro-Israel demonstrator following a confrontation with Alnaji but so far the evidence only supports the charges of involuntary manslaughter and battery. • Prosecutors in the death earlier this month of a Jewish protester in the Sherman Oaks area Southern California say they have reviewed “over 600 pieces of evidence and the statements of over 60 witnesses” in charging the defendant with manslaughter.
  • The prosecutors have charged 50-year-old Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji in the death of Paul Kessler, 69.
  • Alnaji and Kessler clashed at a Nov. 5 protest related to the Israel-Hamas war, in which Alnaji was protesting with others at a Free Palestine rally, and Kessler was protesting in support of Israel.
