Voters in Ohio this year approved a measure to make it 24th state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.

The legalization of recreational marijuana has been a slow-moving trend across the United States.
It wasn’t until 2012 that Colorado and Washington became the first states to legalize marijuana through ballot initiatives. Since then, a number of other states have followed suit and approved the use of recreational cannabis.
Ohio voter approved recreational marijuana by way of a ballot measure.

The District of Columbia decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana in 2015.

Marijuana remains a Schedule I substance under federal law and is considered a dangerous drug with no medical value.
