The spending deal between Democrat and Republican and the House and Senate was announce by GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democrat Senate leader Chuck Schumer.

In a “Dear Collegues” letter, Johnson said the top line spending deal “results in an overall $30 billion total reduction from the Senate’s spending plans.”

However, Johnson also acknowledged “these final spending levels will not satisfy everyone, and they do not cut as much spending as many of us would like.”

The deal reportedly includes an additional $10 billion in cuts to mandatory IRS funding, bringing the total to $20 billion and a $6.1 billion from what Johnson called “the Biden’s Administration’s continued COVID-era slush funds.”

He also touted the deal as an improvement from last year’s “Schumer-Pelosi omnibus” spending bill.

The full House and Senate are set to return this week from a holiday break – ahead of a two-tiered government funding setup with  Jan. 19 and Feb. 2 deadlines.
