CNN commentator and former Obama official Van Jones on Tuesday advised President Biden to adopt a low profile and avoid the public, citing that the President is not a great communicator. Jones suggested that Biden should allow others to speak on his behalf, such as union members and clean energy executives.

During a panel discussion on CNN, Jones criticized the President’s campaign, asserting that while Biden has done an exceptional job on the economy, he lacks the necessary communication skills to be an effective messenger for himself.

Jones stated: “There’s something wrong with this campaign where we are somehow expecting Joe Biden – frankly, he hid during the last campaign – to just somehow come out and be Flash Gordon and save his own campaign.” Jones further added that these individuals who are benefitting from the Biden economy should be empowered to speak.

Jones’ comments regarding Biden’s campaign triggered a discussion, with former Obama official David Axelrod also weighing in. Axelrod predicted that the inevitable rematch between Biden and former President Trump would be “trench warfare.”

Axelrod went on to predict that the two candidates would spend more time discussing each other than their policies. However, unlike Jones, he did not comment on Biden’s communication skills.

“They will spend more time talking about Donald Trump than Joe Biden, and he will be spending a lot of time talking about Joe Biden,” Axelrod said.
