- Bryan Cutler, former Republican Speaker of the Pennsylvania House, filed suit this past week challenging Democratic Rep. Joanna McClinton’s assertion that she is the majority leader.
- McClinton was elevated to that position immediately following the election, when Democrats controlled 102 of the House’s 203 seats.
- The problem is that, because state Representative Anthony DeLuca (D-Pittsburgh) was reelected this year despite having died in October, Democrats did not constitute a majority of House members at the time.
- In addition, Democrats lost two members: Representatives Austin Davis (D-Pittsburgh) and Summer Lee (D-Pittsburgh) resigned form their House seats earlier this month so they could respectively assume the offices of lieutenant governor and congresswoman.
