Supreme Court Refuses To Stop Illinois Assault Weapons Ban

The Supreme Court has chosen not to immediately halt Illinois’s bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, allowing them to remain in effect for the time being.

In response to a request from a gun rights group and a gun shop owner, the Supreme Court has declined to temporarily suspend the enforcement of Illinois’s assault weapons and high-capacity magazine bans.

The case also challenges a local ordinance in Naperville, Illinois, which prohibits the sale of assault rifles. The justices, through a brief and unsigned order, have decided against intervening in the case at this particular stage. The case could potentially return to the Supreme Court for a final ruling on its merits.
