- The Texas State Republican Executive Committee on Saturday voted during its quarterly meeting in favor of censuring Gonzales, by a 57-5 vote with one abstention.
- The resolution censuring Gonzales said he voted “in violation of the Principles of the Republican Party of Texas” by joining all Democrats in supporting the “Respect for Marriage” Act to protect gay marriage.
- The resolution also stated the congressman “has failed to support” the Border Safety and Security Act of 2023 and he voted in favor of the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” which imposes additional firearms restrictions.
- Gonzales’ spokesperson said the congressman he “flipped [the voting district] from blue to red. The Republican Party of Texas would be wise to follow his lead and do some actual work.”
