A bill that seeks to prohibit doctors from providing certain gender-affirming care to individuals under 18 years old is now on its way to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s desk for consideration. The legislation successfully passed in the state’s Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday.
In a vote of 19-12, the Senate approved the bill, which aims to restrict transgender children’s access to surgeries, puberty blockers and hormone therapies.
Referred to as Senate Bill 14, the legislation had already passed in the House on Monday. It is part of a series of measures being advanced in the GOP-led Texas legislature related to transgender issues.
