The Supreme Court on Monday put a hold on Texas’ plan to detain migrants trying to unlawfully cross into the U.S.

The justices froze the implementation of the law until March 13 and asked Texas to respond to the ruling by March 11.

The plan was supposed to go into effect Saturday.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed the law, among several he’s supported to secure the southwest U.S. border and crack down on immigration.

The Supreme Court intervened in response to an emergency request by the Justice Department.

The agency made the request after a federal appeals court over the weekend stayed U.S. District Judge David Ezra’s sweeping rejection of the law late last week.
