• The United States says it will stand with and defend the Philippines following reports that Beijing’s Coast Guard utilized laser devices to temporarily blind the crew of a Philippine Coast Guard ship, according to the State Department.
• State Department spokesperson Ned Price said China’s conduct was “provocative and unsafe” and also interfered with “lawful operations” conducted by the Philippines in the South China Sea.
