WATCH: Woman Nearly Gored After Trying To Pet Bison In Yellowstone

FILE - In this Aug. 3, 2016, file photo, a large bison blocks traffic as tourists take photos of the animals in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park in Wyo. Park administrators appear to have lost ground on a 2009 pledge to minimize cell phone access in backcountry areas. Signal coverage maps for two of Yellowstone's five cell phone towers show calls can now be received in large swaths of the park's interior such as the picturesque Lamar Valley. The maps were obtained by a Washington, DC-based advocacy group, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility. (AP Photo/Matthew Brown, File)

In May, a video circulated on social media capturing a harrowing incident in Yellowstone National Park, where a bison nearly attacked and potentially gored a tourist to death.

The footage, attributed to Russ Bjorn, depicts a woman extending her hand towards a bison near a pathway within the renowned U.S. national park. Strangely positioned at the rear of a group of individuals, she inexplicably decided to attempt petting the massive wild animal.

Initially, it appears as though the bison might allow her to pet it, but suddenly, it abruptly charges towards her. It remains unclear whether the animal made contact or attacked the woman, but she is forcefully propelled backward in an attempt to evade potential goring.
