Youngkin Rolls Out Anti-Crime Initiative: ‘Operation Bold Blue’

Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Monday debuted a statewide initiative to bolster law enforcement and combat crime including effort to ensure prosecutors work to jail violent offenders.

  • Operation Bold Blue Line includes efforts to improve low pay in law enforcement, help recruit officers for local agencies and ensure prosecutors work to jail violent offenders.
  • “Across Virginia, people wake up and turn on the morning news to hear story after story of violence in their communities: homicides, shootings, and aggravated assaults,” Youngkin said. ”With a nearly 40% law enforcement vacancy rate in some cities in Virginia, with too few prosecutors actually prosecuting, and with diminished community engagement and witnesses less willing to come forward, Virginia’s blue line is getting far too thin.”
  • Youngkin also said Virginia State Police has 250 vacancies and said said his administration will allocate $30 million on a nationwide recruiting program to fill them.
