Hochul Signs ‘Safe Haven’ Bill To Allow Sex Changes For Kids In New York

New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill on Sunday aimed at safeguarding access to transition-related medical care for transgender minors.

The newly enacted legislation prevents state courts from enforcing the laws of other states that might enable the removal of a child from their parents’ custody due to the provision of gender-affirming medical care. This care includes treatments like puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

The law prohibits New York courts from categorizing transition-related care for minors as child abuse unless it aligns with the definition of abuse as outlined by state law. The bill mandates that state and local authorities refrain from cooperating with out-of-state agencies concerning the delivery of lawful gender-affirming care within New York.
