‘Homicide,’ ‘Law & Order’ Actor Richard Belzer Dead At 78

Belzer died early Sunday at his home in Bozouls in southwest France, according to friend-writer Bill Scheft.

  • Sheft said Belzer had “lots of health issues.”
  • Belzer got his start as an edgy stand-up performer, then fame as detective John Munch on “Homicide: Life on the Street”and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
  • The actor’s first film was “The Groove Tube” in 1974 and he warmed up audiences in the early days of “Saturday Night Live.
